"So at the present time I seem to be thinking rationally again in the style that is characteristic of scientists. However this is not entirely a matter of joy as if someone returned from physical disability to good physical health. One aspect of this is that rationality of thought imposes a limit on a person's concept of his relation to the cosmos. For example, a non-Zoroastrian could think of Zarathustra as simply a madman who led millions of naive followers to adopt a cult of ritual fire worship. But without his "madness" Zarathustra would necessarily have been only another of the millions or billions of human individuals who have lived and then been forgotten." - Excerpt from Nobel Prize Biography.
We call people who relate to the cosmos as a part of them as schizophrenics. We say that something is wrong with their mind. That is the sign of the times.
In the past, those who related to themselves as being a part of nature and one with the wind, water, air, and energy of the universe.... who could see that there were just fragments of the same matter-energy distribution that pervades the universe were considered Prophets of God.
In my mind, the Genius of John Nash is only increased by his prophetic fight against the american system that is so against the concept of God in human beings that it is willing to lock them up in Mental Hospitals. Those who go every Sunday to Church professing that Prophets of God heard voices, are from the same culture that asks the question "Did you hear any voices in your head?" before diagnosing a person with Schizophrenia and putting him on medication to erase those voices. Unless, ofcourse, that person happens to be the president who hears voices about non-existent weapons of destruction in a particular country or somehow sees a person in another country even though he cant find him there.
Such I believe is the diachotomy that now rules our society that wants to believe in God but its own science is not enabling those who see God everywhere and in everything to ever speak up and share their vision of a unified peaceful world with them.
That is the light in which I see John Nash. His contribution to economics, through Game Theory is immense... and he already has got a Nobel prize for that. But I believe his unrecognized contribution to human society is the ability of a different mind to guide people towards a new way of looking at the world, which is normal, and does not have to be 'cured' through medication. Forgive me O Psychatrists of this world.... for maybe I know not what I say.
